Palm Pre = Awesome

Posted June 6th, 2009, 04:36 PM by Admin - 12 replies Post to Facebook Bookmark and Share

Just a little bit of geeking out to share... I just got a Palm Pre today and so far I have to say I am loving it... I'm always surprised how many people have iPhones and I always wanted one but couldn't get it with my mobile carrier (Sprint). Now I finally have something like it that doesn't suck and, in some ways, is better. Woohoo! Yay me! Unfortunately, this probably leaves me with a Ramen diet for a while. :p

I envy you adults..

I do want a phone, not because I want to call people, but because they look so cool.. >_< I've always adored small -tech-stuff, luckily I've been getting some cools things throughout the years, but still not a phone.. D:

Awh, I'm still stuck with my Razr v3i since my Sidekick Slide stopped working.

So admin, how would you say it compares to your moto Q? (That is you had a moto Q, unless I don't remember correctly.)

I wish I could afford one of these awesome smart phones. I've had my eyes on android for some time now. And the HTC hero looks to be awesome.

But unfortunatley I cannot afford these fancy schmancy phones. I'm getting a Razr2 V8 2GB shipped from t-mobile unlocked to australia. Its so much cheaper.

Also, just another random question, is it true that you get charged for receiving a text? That would be called stupid over here. But apparently thats a charge in the US. I'm shocked.

How does it compare to my old Q? WAY better. I was never much of a fan of Windows Mobile and am glad to be rid of it. As far as size comparisons... The Q was a wee bit thinner but not by much. The screen, of course, is much bigger and looks WAY better too... Sliding the keyboard out is nice as well. Overall, 2 thumbs up.

Some plans charge for text receives... In general, the text plans in the US suck. I have friends who pay $5 for 300 texts. 300!!! Texts are like emails... Can you imagine if they charged $5 fr 300 emails? People would be pissed. The plans required for the Pre are a little more expensive but they include everything... Texts, data, GPS, etc.

As far as enying adults... I often find myself envying younger ones who don't have all the adult responsibilities (jobs, bills, more bills, etc). Care-free life or fancy-schmancy phone? I'd give up the phone in a second.

Well, I dunno.. As a kid, you can't just pick out a car from the driveway/garage and just take off either.

Anyway, congrats on your new toy admin! It sounds really nice.
Personally, I don't go for those fancy phones as I prefer to pay just $20 every 3 months! I'm a cheapskate and I just rarely use it. I just have an Oystr (pink) and the iPod Touch is my super toy! What ever you want, there's an app for it! I can text to phones/email from it if I really need to.

Looks like someone was desperate. I hope that lady gets her Palm Pre.

Woman Creates Sprint's first drive through. All for a palm pre.
An elderly woman apparently couldn’t wait to get her Palm Pre from a Calumet Park cell phone store. She only suffered a few scratches, but the store didn’t fare so well.

The woman drove her car right into the store, smashing the front windows and stopping completely inside. Employees Jesus Leal Jr. and Rich Kelly were inside when they got the surprise of their lives (watch the video at left to see what we mean).

“It was a complete shock … they helped her out of the car and 30 seconds later police and fire dept got all here,” Kelly said.

“The best way I can put it is when you’re watching a movie and you see a car go through a display, it’s everything’s in slow motion. You didn’t look, you just see glass shattered everywhere,” Leal said.

The store, at 12842 S. Ashland Ave., is getting ready to release the new Palm Pre on Saturday. They said they’ll clean up and hope to be able to reopen by 8 a.m.
Turns out she was driving a pre-us.

Ive been looking at those Palm Pre things as well. I want one, but lord knows I cant afford it. I couldnt afford an iPhone and I sure as heck cant afford a Palm Pre lol. I have a Samsung Gravity, I love it, its awesome, and for the first time in like 5 years I am finally on an actual plan. We have been prepaid forever and I was constantly getting bitched at for wasting our minutes on texting. So now I pay 5 bucks a month (yeah, Im one of those people) for 400 texts. It was either this or unlimited texts for 20 bucks a month which I wasnt willing to pay. I get unlimited minutes though XD I REALLY wanted an LG Xenon but Tmobile doesnt have those =(

Anyways. Awesome phone, let us know the pros and cons you discover on it over the next couple of days, Im interested to see what kind of flaws it has compared to a basic phone.

And I envy children. Carefree living, no bills, no responsibilities (not like adults at least), and they dont have to worry about relationships too much lol

I dont wanna grow up, Im a toys r us kid.....-sniff sniff-

You think being a child is bill-free?!?!?!

I just got a new phone on a $19 cap on 3 Mobile. And I made a promise to my dad that I'd pay for anything that went over the $70 limit.

The only problem is, I made one call to my mom. 6 minutes long. and I went over my $70 limit within my second week of my plan. So now I owe my dad like 12 bucks.

I mean my old phone was a $30 p/ mth prepaid thing where I would get like $300 of credit and half a gig of data. My dad is a scum bucket. Not only is there no handset repayments at all, but I get half of what I used to get.

Maybe it's just me whinging.

I still think, out of all the plans I've been on, the sidekick plan on telstra (australias equivalent of t-mobile) was the best value. Minus the call costs, I mean unlimited data, messaging, MMS and IM was excellent.

But still, 5 dollars for 300 texts, compared to some of the insane charges over here, that is excellent.

I mean I can pay $5 for something crappy like 50 texts. The US phone market is shockingly different to what is over here.

Just got my hands on the Palm Pre SDK. (Which includes an Emulator which lets you use the WebOS on the PC) It's cool and I'm getting the hang of the finger gestures.

Its certainly a lot easerr to use then the Black Berry OS.

Its also good how you can customize the launcher and the little launcher bar down the bottom. It's full of web links now. Which is cool.

And it even renders nonTT as a ful computer version.

But there's no app catalogue and it won't pull my facebook and google contacts, email data etc. Android had a much better email set up.

There's also like 0 customization but it's ok. Because the iphone didn't have a wallpaper to set. I like this OS much better...
