Teens Exposing Themselves in Cyberspace

Today’s PsychCentral.com highlights a recent study that found one in five teens are using cell phones and online technology to send sexually explicit pictures of themselves to others. The research is from the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unwanted Pregnancy and CosmoGirl.com. (Click here to read the original report.)

PsychCentral founder John Grohol, an expert in online psychology issues, says that the “online disinhibition effect,” the phenomenon that prompts people to say and do things in cyberspace that they wouldn’t ordinarily say or do in the real world, is strongly at work here. He notes that nearly one quarter of teens say that technology makes them personally more forward and aggressive.

I read this and think about recent reports of teens being busted for child pornography because they have explicit pictures of themselves or their boy/girlfriends on their phones or computers... Does this leave 20% of all teens vulnerable to child porn convictions? Or are the 20% numbers just total bullcrap?

Anyone here willing to admit to sending explicit images/videos to others?

Anyone willing to prove it by posting here? (actually DON'T! I don't want nTT to become a child/teen porn target.

The number is bullcrap for sure. They're just guessing. Even if they did a survey, teens lie in both directions.

As a teen model, I did have some rather suggestive photos taken (not nudes, I was fully clothed) and my parents and grandparents rose into towering tempers, saying it was "softcore pornography). I didn't realize at the time that's what it was going to be, and of course I'm not proud of it (like some tall and blonde Canadian bitches). But it was was absolutely legal. I won't post any of them, but if you're interested you can PM me.

A girl in my grade sent a naked photo of herself to her boyfriend who sent it to all of his mates who sent it to there mates etc...
She was only late 13 early 14 years old as well.
Now many people don't know her name, she's just 'That Girl Who Was Naked On The Mobile Phones'.

I suppose that many teens do this to make themselves seem more grown up or cool.
While they may gain '5 seconds of fame' or 'street cred' they ultimately have lost their dignity or their self respect.

See I don't understand the whole thing with posting all the pictures of my life online. My (paranoid?) fear is that these come back to haunt me later in life. Applying to a job in the future? Employer Googles you and up come photos of you puking your drunk guts out and another of you naked spread from a jilted ex-lover. No thanks. But apparently this is pretty much normal for the youngsters. *Crap... Said youngsters and now I feel old*
