Bigfoot's body discovered?

Posted August 18th, 2008, 12:01 PM by Admin - 35 replies Post to Facebook Bookmark and Share

Saw this article with pictures online about some guys who claim to have discovered the body of a bigfoot/sasquatch and now have it in a freezer... Anyone else see this? Anyone believe 'em?

It's a lame bigfoot costume with some animal entrails thrown in for effect. It's the same hoax they've been pulling for... goodness knows how long.

Anyone actually think there are bigfoots/bigfeets/big-whatever-the-plural-is out there to be discovered?

I've seen all sorts of faked claims and such from the past... It almost seems like it would be easy to do a fake.

*Admin tries to think about what would be the most fun to fake a claim about*

Well, here's what I think, and I could be totally off.

Bigfoot is supposed to be this bipedal humanoid creature, probably similar to Lucy, the Australopithecus specimen discovered in the 70's: upright walkers with small cranial capacities. It was her skeleton (or rather about 40%) that they found, not a living creature, embedded in a layer of sediment that was about 3.5 million years old. But she was tiny, less than 4 feet tall, if I remember correctly.

Some think he's related to the Gigantopithecus apes found in the 1930's, but that wouldn't explain his ability to walk upright. In order for Bigfoot to exist, his entire body, EXCEPT for his head, would've had to complete the evolutionary process (and surpass ours, in fact, to get to be so tall). Not likely.

I think "Bigfoot", if it ever did exist, has been dead for at least a million years, and any sightings thereafter have been hoaxes, and any remains are from either of the two species mentioned above.

Now THAT is an awesome response... Thanks!

I totally fall in line with your line of thinking on this one... The little kid in me wishes for more but I don't think we are going to find it yet. With the ease of creating images and videos these days I am surprised we aren't overwhelmed with even more claims of this, unicorns, dragons, quality TV sitcoms and other mythical things.

So how about changing direction slightly... What would you think is the best/most creative/easiest to pull off hoax sighting?

Well, like you said, with the technology today, literally anything is possible if someone's willing to front the money for it. While in movies, most things are in CGI because its much cheaper, it's possible to make an extremely realistic robot of literally ANYTHING. But the eyes can be fooled easily. Science, not so much. They'll want to run tests, get imaging, DNA tests and all that. As far as I know, that's (as of yet) impossible to fool.

I think meteor[ite] hoaxes would be expensive, but convincing. Create a meteorite in a secret lab, go out in space (obviously this would be a government conspiracy, unless you know someone with a space shuttle), and send it towards Earth. Personally, I think making several copies of a moon rock (or hey, even chipping a series of chunks off the real moon) and sending it flying towards Earth would be a gas. I can see it in the headlines now: "Moon is falling apart!"

Well, if you just wanna fool your neighbor, then I guess you could just set the rock on fire and catapult it into their back yard or something...

Ghost hoaxes would be easy to do as well, but not easy to fool people.

....waaaait a minute, are you planning on trying to fool the world???

Bigfoot viability depends on exactly what type of animal they are thought to be. Some do hypothesize that they are the type of "missing link"creature that Zoe described. Australopithicus(Lucy) is an extremely unlikely candidate. Her species were of the right stature, but entirely too small. I'm not a fan of this theory.

Gigantopithicus is somewhat more viable. The size and stature of these animals were entirely fitting of the Bigfoot description. They were actually considerably taller and bulkier(huge body mass) than we are, very hairy, and many feel that they were upright walkers at least for certain foraging activities. Gigantopithicus were thought to have died out sometime in pre-history because of their sub-par intelligence compared to us, and because their bodies were so huge and bulky that they had too much body mass relative to surface area. Therefore, they could not tolerate hot temperatures and, like Mammoths and other Mega Fauna of the day, they died out when the Earth warmed up to our current-day temperatures. This information would make it impossible for Bigfoot to exist in places where they are sighted, such as Texas(a Bigfoot hotspot), but feasible for it to exist in the Northern montane forest areas. Personally, I'm not a HUGE fan of this theory, but it is still somewhat viable.

*I* feel that, if "Bigfoot" does exist...my inner child is hoping something unexplained is out there xD.....I feel it is much more likely that is simply an ape. A Great Ape could very easily exist in most of the areas in which Bigfoot is commonly seen. The forests have proven to be plentiful and dense enough that societies of Apes could make a living there. The food sources and temperatures are correct. And, look how much trouble researchers have finding known, well-documented large societies of great apes such as chimpanzees and orangutans. They often have to search for days and days to find the troups, even with satellite tracking devices and radio collars working in their favor. Several scientific leaders in different related fields of study have recently come together to discuss the possibility of an unknown species of Great Ape living in North American forests. The general consensus has been that it is possible for them to exist in the forests today, and a likely explanation for the more convincing DNA and Audio evidence that was provided. Granted, they cannot prove anything without solid proof of the creature's existance, but I tend to lean towards this particular explanation for the phenomanon.

Yes, yes, and yes. Lucy was like 1/2 to 1/3 of Bigfoot's supposed size. But I'm pretty sure ALL accounts of sightings have claimed he's always upright, so, while the Gigantopithicus is probably the closest real thing out there (arguably real), it's not likely to be... wtf am I talking about, its DEAD. Dead and gone! Know what bigfoot is? It's something people in boring communities convince themselves they see just to draw a little life and attention to their area. Why are there less sightings up in the Pacific Northwest? Those people have LIVES, stuff to do besides made bigfoot claims.

Your inner child may be pleased to know there are most likely undiscovered species out there... but they're not likely to be 10ft tall. Probably just awesome bugs and such.

Being a resident of Texas... I'll ignore the implication of Pacific Northwesterners living a fuller/richer life than people in the south... :p

Your point of these sightings being a way for people to draw attention to their areas has some validity... In fact, just today I saw this video about a supposed chupacabra caught on tape. In it a sheriff admits that he loves the attention it brings to his small town.

At least this guy admits it... They also have a body (from a previous incident) and video. The guys on this bigfoot announcement admit they are looking to make as much money as possible from it all.

And yes... my inner child is still hoping for all kinds of wonderful things yet to be discovered... Sad thing is that I have to admit to myself that, at this point, no matter how magical and amazing, I'd still be looking at it analytically and with a suspicious mindset. Kinda kills the fun out of anything.

LOL! Nah... But it is fun to think about. Hmmm... Unless anyone is interested in doing some viral video-worthy stunts.

I wasn't targeting Texans! Way to make me feel bad D: I was talking about bored people and their hoaxes. There are plenty of bored folk in the NW, but a higher concentration in areas there nothing happens.

Like crop circles and alien abductions, who always gets abducted? People in places where there are no others around as witnesses! These people are either really gullible or really bored.

.... Chupacabra, lol XDD

Oh absolutely there are undiscovered species out there! In fact, there are listings of these events posted yearly online. It's thrilling! Generally the new discoveries are smaller creatures, the vast majority being invertebrate, but large species are still being discovered around the world, too. Even mammalian species are being discovered! Pretty exciting stuff.

There are certainly a LOT of hoaxes out there. A huge portion of the reported crop circles are man made. The Chupacabra killings can easily be explained by two things. 1. Gruesome killings. I saw with my own eyes the same kinds of brutal, mysterious killlings of my own chickens 10 years ago. They were found bloodless, headless, otherwise intact. We discovered it was a raccoon who was killing them overnight this way. 2. The beast sightings are almost always proven to be feral dogs/foxes/coyotes with bad cases of mange and skin diseases. There are an insane amount of other U.S. monster/anomaly reports that, when investigated, turn out to be entirely false or extremely unlikely.

Has anybody checked out the show MonsterQuest? It's a great weekly show that investigates different claims of monsters all around the U.S. mainly. It's incredible how many different "monsters" there are around here. Last week they did the Giant Octopus...a supposedly 80 ft+ Octopus off the East Coast. Pretty cool.
