Plastic surgery "down there" a new trend?!

Time is running an article about the current ""trend" (or at least rise in the numbers) of vaginal plastic surgeries. Very sad to read...

Original article is here.
Plastic Surgery Below the Belt

On the youth sex-education website Scarleteen.com, dozens of teenage girls can be found commiserating about their labia. "i REALLY h8 mine! They hang really REALLY low and r SO long!" reads one comment. Meanwhile, on MakeMeHeal.com, a consumer site that sells special bras and other gear for women recovering from plastic surgery, women of all ages submit photos of their nether regions and ask for feedback on whether they should get nipped and tucked down there. Welcome to the strange new world of female genital cosmetic surgery, where body insecurity issues are fueling a small but growing Western market for such procedures as labiaplasty, clitoral un-hooding, G-spot augmentation and hymen reconstruction, a.k.a. "revirginization."

Appalled at the popularity of so-called designer vaginas, a grass-roots organization called the New View Campaign staged its first-ever protest on Monday outside New York City's Manhattan Center for Vaginal Surgery. Two dozen women — ranging in age from teenagers to, ahem, sexagenarians — handed out index cards and held up orange poster boards with the message "No Two Alike," while two members of the group donned giant cloth vulva costumes. New View, which was created in 2000 in response to the introduction of Viagra, is trying to fight what it calls "the medicalization of sex," the idea that there is a physical right and wrong when it comes to all things sexual. Says the group's leader Leonore Tiefer, a sexologist and psychologist at New York University: "Promoting a very narrow definition of what women's genitals ought to look like — even for those women who don't want surgery, it harms them."

There is no way I would EVER want to have surgery on my girly bits!! Ugh. Makes me cringe just thinking about it. I understand having insecurities about your appearance...but as long as it is perfectly functional I see no reason to undergo surgery.

This same unnecessary obsession is taking over the males as well. You've seen them I'm sure, all these male enhancement stuff all over the net, spam emails and TV commercials. People are going as far as going through an EXTREMELY risky procedure which might make the guy in question lose ALL feeling down there, to have "length and girth" added to their wedding tackles! phalloplasty is just sad ..

Hey, well there was a massive uproar in Queensland when a boy wanted to be a girl. or the other way around. Don't really know. Anyway so,

Do I want plastic surgery? Right now? No. When I'm a celebrity, maybe.

Ha. This is nature's way of preventing you from becoming a whore. ALL vaginas are just ugly things by nature, every last one of them! If you're showing your snatch to someone you're afraid will give a crap what it looks like, then you probably should put it away and not screw this guy just yet! I dunno about you ladies, but MY guy would be put off if I chopped up my genitals 1.) because I just ruined my natural self and 2.) because... who the hell else do I think is gonna see them??? Besides the gyno and the OB (whose going to see it in its worst state ever when a baby is squeezing out of it), no one!

Hmmm... Makes me wonder if it is one of those things like with girls who get the pretty little tattoo around their belly... Then end up regretting it later when it is all distorted after weight gain/childbirth. Can you go back for a "touch up" or something?

... How the hell do you "touch up" a tattoo that looks like a rained-on watercolor painting???

Sorry... Should have been more specific. I meant a touch-up after child birth has stretched out that perfect little designer vagina paid for with daddy's credit card.

You know, I have seen a procedure on one of those 90210 Surgery shows that they call the Vagina Lift. It's similar in theory to a tummy tuck for a woman who has delivered a baby. They go in and surgically remove extra "saggy" tissue and tighten the muscles in the vaginal walls. Just so they can "rejuvenate" their vag.

You know, this is the kinda thing that makes me reconsider the whole baby thing. I don't want to have to live life with a body ruined by childbirth D: It's not even just a vanity thing anymore.

In most cases you're body would only be ruined by childbirth if you allow it

I have the feeling that you're not the type of gal to allow that kind of thing to happen.

If you have a child, make sure you have a "healthy" pregnancy. Stay fit, eat well and sensibly, do plenty of exercises specific to keeping control of the bits that sag* and you'll probably be fine.
It's not guaranteed that having a baby will leave you with the exact same bod you started out with 9 months previously, but for the most part things like stretch marks, sagging boobs, chunky upper arms, stretched naughty bits - can all be avoided if you research how to have a healthy pregnancy.

* My personal recommendations are for the upper arm and the pelvic floor excercises. But then I've had two babies and neither gave me stretch marks

Right now I'm undecided. Although I'm thinking of being an egotistical hypocrytical capitalist consumerist texting and IM'ing 24/7 kind of celebrity. Temporarily, and then go and become a celebrity murderer and go and squish the hollywood party girls in my limosine.

Who knows? The journey to celeb-dom is confusing. One minute I could sell my dog on ebay for $4 million , then I'm on oprah, then I'm signing up to paris hiltons record label!

Wait, where am I going with this. Oh right, thats just another one of my dreams. ******

Okay, unless you look like this, you shouldn't go out and have your genitals altered.

I'm not posting it as an image, b/c it's rather disturbing. Don't worry, it's a drawing, not a photograph.

Ra,
