Experimental Diet a Fountain of Youth for Monkeys



The results of a 20-year-long study on caloric restriction in rhesus monkeys provides the strongest evidence yet that a low-calorie diet produces life-extending metabolic changes in primates — even, perhaps, in people.

Fed a diet that provided adequate nutrition on 30 percent fewer calories than is considered normal, the monkeys have largely escaped the ravages of heart disease, cancer and other age-related diseases.

Was this really a surprise? Isn't it pretty much common knowledge that being fat increases your risks of death?

This research isn't new at all. My dad has based his life on it for the last 30 years. That's why he's so thin and in great shape. He is in far better shape than my mom who is 10 years younger than him.

There has been conflicting research lately saying that staying average is just as good.

All research points to being overweight as being bad. We all know this.

I'm sorry, but that monkey looks very unhealthy.
It's eyes are sunken in, it's face is gaunt and it's skin is hanging off as it has no fat to support it. :'(
