Study links sex on TV to teen pregnancy... What do you think?

CNN is runnin a story in which they discuss a study which concluded that sex on TV is linked to teen pregnancy.

The article is here.
Sexual content on television is strongly associated with teen pregnancy, a new study from the RAND Corporation shows.

Researchers at the nonprofit organization found that adolescents with a high level of exposure to television shows with sexual content are twice as likely to get pregnant or impregnate someone as those who saw fewer programs of this kind over a period of three years. It is the first study to demonstrate this association, RAND said.

I'd buy it. Teens are seeing pregnancy glorified on TV and movies, so they think even though it's a stupid move to make, that in the end it will all be okay, the lights will dim and the credits will roll.

Teen parents sicken me. No wonder every successive generation is more screwed up than the last.

I had read this other study which blamed chickens. According to that story (I'm not sure if anyone here has heard of it) all the growth hormones they give chickens is what causes our 15 yr old daughters to get hooters the size of watermelons and an usual appetite for sex. I'm not sure how true this is, but it sort of makes sense to me that ingesting an animal which has taken growth hormones might affect us.

Ra,
Yeah! Let's keep blaming it on everyone and everything besides these slutty teenage girls!!! It's not their fault! It's KFC and television!

I blame it on all those boys who think they are so hot and just have to sing songs about how they are so horny and shit.

I think you'll notice that lots of 16 year old boys will f**k just about anything

and linking it with TV?

Gosh that took too long.

I linked that a generation ago

I'm actually relatively surprised to hear you all agreed with it. I admit to being torn on my opinion. My reasoning is it seems like every generation hears tat they are hornier and sluttier than the last. Sex/affection on TV has been blamed over and over again. I'd figure the researchers of this study heard the same argument from their parents as well. It is true that TV shows are going deeper and deeper (harder and harder :p) into showing more sexy scenes... As well as trying to push how much they can show during those scenes. Would it all stop if everyone watched Barney all day?

Or is it the chickens? I can see some merit to that argument.

This is bull.

Oh my god... People blame EVERYTHING on tv and other stuff. BUT it's because they don't discipline or teach their children enough!

Teens have common sense to have sex or not with protection, they're not morons. They should be teached more about Teen pregnancy if it's this bad of a problem. Being a Teen myself, I get teached loads about drugs and sex and stuff. They teach this stuff to us over and over again.
(We've been learning about drugs and sex since the last semester of Grade 5. They're still going on about it.)

Wanna know why? So it gets to our brains that you need protection from sex and stay away from bad drugs.

That's what needs to be done. Don't blame everything on tv because "WE DID A SURVEY AND STUFF :p" Obviously, they need to do better.

Ra,
I didn't eat much chicken growing up o.o And well.. Ya know.

It doesn't surprise me that they would associate tv and teen pregnancy.
I'm sure them making movies about it doesn't help either.

I'm probably contradicting myself by saying this but, I admit some movies and tv shows don't help the problem now that I think about it.

There was this show/movie I remember....can't think of the title, but it's not Juno. Can someone help me out with the title here? I think it starts with a C or T.

Exactly. No matter what SCHOOLS teach, as long as sex and teen pregnancy is glorified in the "real world" (television), teens will think that it'll be okay. Yes, teenagers can be extremely impressionable. Between the ages of 12 and 19, they have a wide range of maturity levels. For every teen who says, "Hell no, that would be completely stupid!" there is another who's thinking, "Yeah, everyone says it's too early, but I can handle it and in the end it'll be okay and I'll have my baby who loves me."

Despite the fact that common sense dictates that TV and life are separate, there is always the argument that TV is based on life and is therefore kept within realistic realms. It's not.

Teens, please don't get knocked up. It'll be nothing but hell for you and the baby does not deserve you as a parent.

I blame the stupidity of the teenage girls. I mean, no matter what impact tv may have on people, or whatever kind of intoxicated chicken was eaten during their lifetime, ultimately, the decision to have sex is made by the teenage girls themselves. I don't think there's anyone besides them to blame for that.

Or you could take a whole different approach and encourage Premature Lesbianism?
