I actually feel sorry for these kids...

Original story and video is here.

Baby-faced boy Alfie Patten is father at 13

BOY dad Alfie Patten yesterday admitted he does not know how much nappies cost — but said: “I think it’s a lot.”
Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like eight, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman gave birth to 7lb 3oz Maisie Roxanne.

He told how he and Chantelle, 15, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant.

The shy lad, whose voice has not yet broken, said: “I thought it would be good to have a baby.

While nothing to be proud of, I think the baby's situation is better than if she was born to two 18-year-olds living on their own. It's not always true that older means wiser and more responsible. Also, these kids' parents seem very willing to help raise the baby, so I guess it's better that she have someone rather than no one.

I look at these kids with quite a bit more innocence than someone my own age. I don't think they really grasped that they really ran the risk of becoming parents. It seems to have not even occurred to the girl that it could happen until the doctor told her she was pregnant. But young adults are irresponsibly having kids they can't provide for (financially or emotionally) and being proud of themselves for it. Turning 18 does not mean that it's okay to start having kids, just because you're now a legal adult. There is no reason to be proud of oneself for being a lousy parent. That idiot Nadya Suleman is 33 and has way less sympathy from me, NONE really, because she's purposely screwing with the lives of babies.

I believe that a baby in the care of these two kids will fare better than one of the 14 kids in Nadya's care.

Wow. I really don't know what to say. I do know that I won't be having any kids at age 13, though.

I dont know what to say to this. I have mixed feelings on it really. I am not against or for abortion. It is acceptable to me in some cases and completely absurd in others, but these kids.....they shouldnt have had a baby. I cant say that its one of those "You knew the risks" deals because seriously, what kid at 12 REALLY understands the risk? I was 11 when my sister was born, I helped take care of her, I changed diapers, I babysat all the time, my mom worked ALOT. But when I started having sex I never even considered the possibility of getting pregnant let alone how I would pay and care for a child if I DID. The mom and her family are on a tight budget as it is because they are on assistance, so its gonna be hard for them. It sounds like the dads family is a little better off, but then again it isnt the grandparents job to support the new family. The kids should have put the baby up for an open adoption, but then again, I dont know how anyone can give their child away, it would be too heart wrenching. You love that child from the first time you see it on the ultrasound, the first time you hear its heartbeat, the first time you feel it move inside your stomach, so giving it away after feeling all that is very hard from what I have heard (I know a few people who adopted out). Should they be forced to give up their child just because they cant support it? Not neccesarily. You dont have to be financially stable to love and care for a child, but they are going to need help with the money and emotional support.

Its a tough call. I dont doubt that they will love that child more than anything, but its gonna be a long road ahead and there are going to be tough times financially and emotionally. Its hard being a parent even if you do have money, so we will see how it all plays out. If we see them in the news again hopefully it will be GOOD news.

I-I-I dunno what to say... I agree with Char.
Just look at the kid's face, he seems like he's thinking
...
Well, god knows what... poor kid really. like in maybe 3rd and fourth grade I knew that people had sex but I never really knew what it meant, but I didn't really know what it WAS until 5th xD Yeah.
So, maybe his girlfriend pressured him into it? She's 15, after all. And he even said he didn't really know what to do.
Eek! I feel SO bad for the little boy. If that were me (which it WOULD NOT BE) if I was being interviewed, I would SO BE FREAKING OUTT. Like, you know that movie Juno? I wouldn't want to see the baby, really. Just put it up for adoption.

But, on the other hand... they seem like they want to be good parents.
Ohwait... did I just read that they wanted to have a baby?

I'm not sure what's more shocking, that a kid who's voice hasn't even broken has screwed a 15 year old, or the fact that the 15 year old was willing to be screwed by a boy who probably doesn't even have pubes yet. Also astonishing to see that they chose to 'keep' the baby. The boy's friggin' 13 years old, by the time that baby's 10, he's going to be 23, doesn't sound much like a 'dad' figure. More like an older brother. That kid's going to be fucked up, just you wait.

... as for financial assistance, notice everyone that "The Sun" newspaper got an "exclusive" on this story (and probably negotiated a follow-up piece or two for good measure).

... maybe I am too old and cynical but I'm willing to bet that the young parents - or rather both families involved - have been paid very well for their "15 minutes" of fame.

The British gutter press has very deep pockets when it comes to "shock, horror" type stories

Ra,
Well, like he said he didn't really know wtf he was doing o.o
I think it was the 15 yo's fault... she probably pressured him into it?
and seriously she should be smart enough to use protection ._.

ohwow. I just read this comment from youtube...

"Does he even have pubes?
no voice break = no pubes = no hormones = no sperm

the dirty bitch cheated! not surprised, he was probably tucked up in bed watching rangers.
like every other normal 12 year old is!
whey! piece of shit excuse for human beings."

Not true. I'm pretty sure all of that doesn't develop at the same time as each other. He might not have a voice drop or much hair in the neither regions, but sperm could be developed first

I could be wrong, but yeah...I figure not all developments in women happen at the same time. Males are similar in their own regard... Jumping to conclusions isn't a good thing lol.

A little update on this baby dad...

Baby-faced dad 'could face DNA tests'

A 13-year-old schoolboy may have to undergo DNA tests to prove that he is the father of a baby, it has been reported.

Last week, baby-faced Alfie Patten, 13, appeared in a national paper saying he was the father of baby Maisie with his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman.

Since then, however, two other boys have come forward, both claiming that they have had a sexual relationship with Miss Steadman, and that they might also be the father of the child.

14-year-old Tyler Barker and trainee chef Richard Goodsell, 16, have both said they may be baby Maisie's father.

Poor kid. Hes already bonded with the baby, and now it may not be his. He has already had to grow up alot since finding out she was pregnant, and in the end it may all have been for nothing. I kinda hope its his, that way he wont be crushed, but I kinda hope its one of the older boys' that way they might be able to provide better for the child and they are a little older so will be able to handle it better (each kid is different though, they may handle it worse, you never know). I just hope the baby gets whats best for HER and is taken care of.
