14-year-old boy banned from school until he shaves off his mustache

A bit of an over-reaction to some peach fuz on the guy's lip? And why does this kid's father look like a porn star?!

Original story is here.

Boy, 14, banned from school for having moustache... but father says he's too young to shave

It is a rite of passage for teenage boys - the often ridiculed appearance of a first moustache.

But when Akaash Iqbal, 14, came into school with a slightly hairy upper lip it turned out to be no laughing matter.

He was sent home and told not to return unless he shaves it off. But he and his family say the school is overreacting over a 'bit of fluff' and refuse to remove it.

Akaash has now missed nearly two weeks of schooling and last night his parents accused the school of jeopardising his education.

It's stupid, yeah, but this is no public school. He and his parents were aware of the dress code and rules on appearance when they enrolled him. If he's old enough to grow the stuff, he's old enough to shave. Girls are typically around 12 or so when they need to start shaving their legs.

I also went to a school which had a very strict dress code. I remember kids being sent home b/c during daily inspections by the Administrators, their hair was found to be longer than 2 inches. I mean, when you enroll your child in schools like that, you have a responsibility to upkeep to the standards. And those include no facial hair. I don't see how the 'school' is jeopardizing his education, I think the parents are by refusing to have their son shave off his dirty sanchez.

If the parents were properly informed of the dress code, than there should be no problem with their son shaving to obey the school rules...

If he is old enough to grow the hair, then he is old enough to remove it. If they are SERIOUSLY that worried about it causing skin issues as he gets older, then they can use some kind of hair removal cream instead and moisturizer. This isnt public school, if they are so offended that their kid is being told to shave, then they can take their money elsewhere and enroll him where he can have a mustache, until then they can shave it off.

This is the kind of crap me and my mom would have pulled when I was in school, and now that I am out of school I think that this kind of shit is stupid. If its school policy, then just do it. You are supposed to read and review all the policies before enrolling your child, you even sign forms saying you agree to everything, if you didnt read it then its your own damn fault.

Well. Once he's "old enough" to shave, I think he should take care of that unibrow as well ^_^
