GONE are the days when troublemakers got detention at school.
Now naughty kids in Lambeth (South London) are being offered foot massages to help improve their behaviour - and it's costing tax payers £90,000.

From next year, pupils up to the age of 13 will be "treated" to reflexology in the hope it will curb aggression.

Locals have expressed outrage at Lambeth council for handing out the expensive treatments when there is no medical proof that it works.

But the council is refusing to apologise for the 'innovative' idea, claiming "traditional therapies" could be the way forward.

A spokesperson from the TaxPayers' Alliance said the scheme sent out a "bad message" and that it is simply a waste of money.

She said: "Rewarding bad behaviour with luxuries sends out a very bad message, both to pupils who now have no incentive to behave well, and to taxpayers struggling in the credit crunch who see yet more of their money being thrown down the drain."

The company that plans on providing the treatments claims reflexology can "calm aggressive feelings, improve listening skills, concentration and focus".

Councillor Paul McGlone, the cabinet member in charge of children and young people, said this is simply a trial run.
