Bill Gates Unleashes Swarm of Mosquitoes on Crowd

Microsoft founder turned philanthropist Bill Gates released a glass full of mosquitoes at an elite technology conference to make a point about the deadly disease malaria.

"Malaria is spread by mosquitoes," Gates said while opening a jar onstage at the Technology, Entertainment, Design Conference — a gathering known to attract technology kings, politicians, and Hollywood stars.

"I brought some. Here I'll let them roam around. There is no reason only poor people should be infected."

... Considering Bill was closest to the mosquitoes... it's safe to assume they all just swarmed around him anyway.

I do like the scare tactic. But I wouldn't have told them until the end of my lecture that they were safe. If ever.

I thought it was a brilliant mveo to illustrate the point... I'd love to see a photo of the faces on the front row when he opened that jar.

No offence but by what logic did he come to that conclusion.

Hey! Maybe at the next apple keynote steve jobs will release a can full of european wasps into the crowd.

I guess with all the trillions he's made, he hasn't been able to buy some common sense and logic. The only thing he'll get from those rich guys now is a finger.

Nah... I'm sure it made the point... Remember! Any publicity is good publicity. This moment has made it into the news and blogosphere now. That's probably worth quite a bit.

Hmmm... If only nTT had some potentially dangerous creatures and critters to release into an audience for the sake of publicity... *looking at you Aubrey*

The part I bolded is only true in specific cases. When I was still in college, I had to take a "public relations" class and learning about publicity and how i effects those involved was semi interesting. In Mr.Gates's case, you're right saying said statement. I mean he's got enough money that even if it was bad PR, he wouldn't lose money. He'd still be ridiculously rich. Obviously anyone else without as many "resources" given to them, methinks it would go in another direction.

Public relations is important for all companies, corporations and charities.
