Innocent collector getting tied up in a law meant for serious pedophiles? Or are some of these manga books popular is Asia just full of child sex abuse and bestiality?

U.S. Manga Obscenity Conviction Roils Comics World

In an obscenity first, a U.S. comic book collector has pleaded guilty to importing and possessing Japanese manga books depicting illustrations of child sex abuse and bestiality.

Christopher Handley, described by his lawyer as a “prolific collector” of manga, pleaded guilty last week to mailing obscene matter, and to “possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.” Three other counts were dropped in a plea deal with prosecutors.

The 39-year-old office worker was charged under the 2003 Protect Act, which outlaws cartoons, drawings, sculptures or paintings depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, and which lack “serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.”

Thats crazy on both sides of the fence. I feel bad for the guy if it is exactly as they say it is and he is just a collector and they were more for his collection, but I also think that he should be brought up on charges because here in the US that kind of smut IS illegal. I dont care what country you get your porn from or what kinda of porn it is, if it has kids and you are in the US you can be charged and everyone knows that. He took the risk, and he got caught. It was his own choice. He knew what he was buying, and I doubt that the 7 books the custom officials saw were the only ones, so I have a hard time believing his lawyer when he says "its just for his collection".

Coming from a manga-fan...

Sadly, if you do some browsing on the internet, you WILL find TONS of hentai manga like this. I have seen it myself, [Yes, that is what I get for going on 4chan.] and even translated into English.

It's nasty, pathetic and sad. If you did enough searching on ebay or something similar like Amazon, you could even find some of these manga's up for auction or sell!

I'm glad they're finally cracking down on these nasty pedophiles.

It's just nasty what's in some of those books.

Its illegal to own, sell, produce, or view any porn that has children in it, regardless of what the circumstances may be. Cartoon porn is no different. Now, pretty much all manga characters look underaged, so its hard to tell which ones are actually minors in the stories. But as for children....even manga has its dead giveaways. No one is going to draw a 7 year old little girl with boobs and pubic hair, so if it has those, then it isnt a child (may be a minor, but isnt a prepubescent child), but if it doesnt....then Im pretty damn sure its child porn.

I think the mangas involved here are ones with prepubescent children because Manga is pretty generic when it comes to characters and its hard to tell age once they hit puberty. I dont know how it is over there, but I wouldnt be surprised if the books dont even mention the age of the characters. They could, which means he has absolutely no defense against it in court, but I doubt that it does say.

Well in most cases, the teenagers either look like underaged girls [Around the age of 5-9] or woman over the age of 18. Same for men. Even if it doesn't give the age out, the only way I can think that he can get jailed if...

1] The 'child' actually looks like a child under the age of 18.

2] It gives away the age in the book. Or shows the 'child' in a school setting wearing school clothes or in some other child-related activity.

3] Bestiality automatically wins the prize of those glorious prison bars

I'm a bit of a cartoon fan, but I've never seen sex in cartoons (not counting South Park or Family guy, that is. :-) ).

But, anyways... Who the heck would actually want to read manga with kid-porn in it, other than M.J.?

This can just prove my point when I say, there is more out there then you think!

I know how much is out there, I am an ex-hentai-fan lol but I never went for that nasty stuff. There is some crazy shit out there in those books, and I dont want any part of it.
