Does PETA even realize how irrelevent they are making themselves? PETA sends Obama a 'humane flycatcher'

Not sure how many people have seen the video where a fly interrupts President Obama during an interview... Obama swats the fly with his hand and then continues with the itnerview... Here is the clip:

Now we have word that PETA sent the President a 'humane flycatcher' that would allow him to catch the fly and release it outside... Seriously PETA?!

Story is here.

PETA Says No More Fly-Killing, Sends Obama a Humane Fly Catcher

PETA has a few words for President Obama: Brush, don’t kill.

After the President very publically swatted and then killed a fly during an interview with CNBC yesterday, the outspoken animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said they wished Obama had served a better example.

“We support compassion for the even the smallest animals," says Bruce Friedrich, VP for Policy at PETA. “We support giving insects the benefit of the doubt."

Friedrich says PETA supports "brushing flies away rather than killing them" and was disappointed that the President had gone ahead and squashed the pesky fly.

I'm curious to know... What is your opinion of PETA?

Honestly, they annoy me. They always overreact to situations such as these. It's a fly for god's sake! A fly. It's just one fly. Plus flies don't help the world out THAT much... PETA just makes everything more dramatic than it really is. They should just chill out and stop REAL animal cruelty. Like how they torture puppies to make fur coats. Those are real issues in life that need to be resolved. Not just saving the life of a fly.

Kay I agree with everything, but that bolded part I'm showing there. From memory of documentaries and things I read growing up in animal books, flies tend to help carcasses in the animal kingdom get stripped down to bone by laying their eggs on it to feast later as larva. I think there's some other helpful things they do in the ecosystem (like be food for other animals or plants keeping the food chain intacted), but I'm still waking up. Can't recall it all.

And no I'm not defending PETA. I think it was stupid too...but they seem to take ANY attention as good attention >_>;; The common housefly is not endangered, is not under populated and to be fair a lot of insects have bigger populations of towns, cities, states or provinces alone. They should be using their energy and time for effectively, but we all know they never will.

P.S. I'd do it, too.

Ok, so I admit, I don't really kill flies either. BUT, that's because I have animals and other invertebrates who enjoy, and benefit from, eating them! xD

Flies and their larvae, maggots, are wonderfully helpful. Maggots are the best natural corpse-removal service around. They are also put into peoples' wounds that do not heal well to clean dead tissue that doctors cannot access. They save limbs and lives that way! And, they also act as food sources themselves for many animals higher in the food chain. They are highly nutritious and easy to eat. haha

And, I will always feel that PETA people are embarrassing imbeciles. Pulling moves like this enforces my belief that they are simply self-centered antagonists who like to hear their own voices. Otherwise, they would get up out of their chairs and picket groups and do something to benefit animals the way that those of us who are called "enthusiasts" do.

@CTF@
lol Ive seen some of those and they always weird me out.

Another thing that PETA is going against right now is the fish throwing at the Pike Place Market here in Seattle. Their argument is that throwing the fish is basically disrespectful to the dead fish and that they shouldnt be treated so badly....I think I heard something about comparing it to throwing a dead kitten, but Im not sure. Here is an article about that too. That is not an actual news article, all the ones I could find centered mostly on the veterinarians having them do a demonstration and I wanted something that more talked about how PETA was going about things.

Here is a video from seattletimes about it lol its kinda funny.
