What a horribly way to go!

Original story is here.

Man boiled alive in soup vat

A GERMAN worker was boiled alive in an empty industrial-sized soup vat while trying to clean it, tabloid newspaper Bild reported.

The 36-year-old, named only as Markus, was scrubbing the two-metre-high pot when the lid accidentally closed, automatically starting the jets of boiling water used to disinfect vegetables.

"For reasons we have still not cleared up, the disinfection process started too soon," a police spokesman told the paper.

Are you people f*cking kidding me? There aren't any room for jokes about this. Haven't we all been boiling water before and got a teeny little splash of it on our hand or arm? It hurts like a bitch! This man was consumed alive, his entire body covered in that sensation, not just a spot on the hand, but his eyes, ears, the inside of his underarms and between the thighs..all those sensitive places, doused with streaming jets of boiling hot water. And not because he was doing anything stupid... he was doing his job.

As for whoever was unfortunate enough to discover the body...now the news never tells you exactly what is found, but what happens when you boil meat like that? It starts to come off the bone. He was probably entirely skinless when they found him, his eyes having burst... not a vision that you can exactly flush from your mind. The nightmares this must have induced...

I don't understand how this could happen in the first place. Where I work, I can lock anything out I want to at any time. Any of hundreds of processes. I can lock out the machine or go find the electrical room and lock out from the source.

For such a horrid process, one would think someone would be "hole watching" or turn the process off or stand by the switch or keep the thing from closing!
I guess Germany isn't as strict as the US.
Maybe I'm just overprotective of my people at work.

You have brains. Not all people have that luxury I guess. That does make me wonder though why no one cut the power to it before he went in to clean it or at least have someone watching over him....

Just a quick mention that the German newspaper "Bild" is not the most "authoritative" of news media in Germany
It is better known for it's "sensationalism".

Call me cynical, but it seems highly unlikely that in Germany (the European centre of efficiency and rules) a vat lid could "accidentally" be closed like that on a worker cleaning the machinery.

Mothra is right. In an industrial plant like that there are numerous health and safety protocols.

I think it's possible that the newspaper might have been exaggerating just a little in order to boost newstand sales.

Ah, ok so this story may not be true. That sheds new light on this.
Well, I hope it's not true.

There are a few of them out there like that. The Sun is another big one. They do have their 100% truth stories, but they also have exaggerated and made up ones too, usually if it sounds like its a bit out there....google it to find out for sure. I havent googled this one, but that is sad if it actually happened and messed up if the news report lied about it.

Wonder what really happened if anything at all...

Yeah I would much prefer it to be the newspaper exaggerating a little to boost news stand sales, because if it did happen, its awful!

Although, I usually hateeeee it when the media manipulates / exaggerates things which can often happen.

Imagine some poor, poor man eating that soup and then saying, "This soup tastes funny."

...Besides, I wonder if that would be considered cannibalism... 'Man-boiled soup', or something? If they DID make that, everyone who ate it would be asking what makes it taste so different.
