I've heard of hot... Especially here in Texas... But I have never heard of something like this!

Original story is here.

Crews rescue man after road melts

A 19-year-old man had to be rescued after his lower leg became stuck in melted tar on a road outside his house in Greater Manchester.

Graham Merrington's foot and shin disappeared down the hole as he tried to cross Angleside Avenue in Burnage.

Firefighters cut away the road surface, believed to have melted in the hot weather, to free him on Tuesday night.

He said: "I was in a bit of shock. You don't expect to be walking down a road and disappear down a hole."

The words "hot" and "Manchester" are not associated with each other;
the words "rain" and "Manchester" are pretty inseparable (except more recently last week when the words "Manchester" and "United" were linked closely with "LOSERS!!!") :p

Believe it or not, this happened to me before. Not b/c of rain though, but b/c of the extreme heat, the asphalt had melted. My foot didn't plunge into a hole, but my flip flops got stuck. I had to stand in the shade as the road was too hot to walk on barefooted w/o any shoes. So I called my brother to bring me another pair of flip flops lol. Not fun, no sir. Not fun at all.

During the summer, walking around town, the tar spots from repair work on the roads (like the stuff they pour in the cracks after working on a road) get so hot that you could get your shoe stuck in it like Ra was mentioning, but the tar road itself never gets hot enough here (that I have seen at least). As for foot going completely through.....did the road like have a big air pocket underneath it or something? Or was the road really just that thick? I mean, lower leg would be like a foot or two (depending) worth of road lol

That must of been scary.. Not being able to move, at the area where traffic is.. not being able to move.. I just wonder if that tar was hot, and maybe it burned his foot? I hope he's okay after this. I would really HATE for that to happen to me, I would be screaming almost as if I were dieing..

This sort of thing happened to me alot over summer. especially when the temperatures reached 47 degrees. So now when you come up the mountain, the new section of the road has a few of my disintegrated thongs and sandals embedded in the edges.

When the weather gets hot, I do an extra shift at the ice-cream shop. Then, I take the cash and buy myself and ice-cream.

Quick, metling-road free, & really tasty!
