Staff from the hospital started to suspect the mother after the child failed to get better. They caught her in the act with a hidden camera. To make matters worse the woman often wrote about raising a premature baby.

Woman charged with injury to child; act caught on hospital camera.

When a 3-year-old patient kept having setbacks during her recovery, doctors at Dell Children's Medical Center suspected that the child's mother was to blame, Austin police said Wednesday.

They set up a hidden camera in the child's hospital room that police and court records said soon recorded Emily Beth McDonald smearing human waste on the girl's intravenous line, which can cause potentially life-threatening illnesses.

McDonald, a 23-year-old mother of three who wrote essays and blogged about giving birth to premature children, now faces a charge of injury to a child, a first-degree felony that carries a sentence of life in prison. She was arrested Sunday.

"The medical records showed the child would start getting better, and feces mostly likely would get introduced," said Chris Hallas, an Austin police child abuse detective.

23 years old and already has three kids... that answers most of my questions. I'm sure there is a nice couple in their late 20's to 30's who want to have a family and can't. All the while, this idiot tries to kill hers. With poo. Grow the hell up, you've been a mother for six years (and your maturity is probably trumped by your eldest). Can all the idiots of the world stop having sex please???

Oh it's not that strict! Some people are allowed! All citizens must submit an application to breed, which will include proof of adequate household income, family health history, a physical and mental evaluation, inspection of home and pets, and an IQ test. Those worthy of breeding must pass every evaluation and score an IQ of 120 or higher. I reserve the right to reject any prospective parents. Everyone else will be sent to celibacy camps!

I totally agree with Mothra and Zoe.

I don't understand why anyone would actually WANT to harm an innocent child! It's sick. I really hope that those damn parents who harm their children get jail time, even prison. And if not that, get something sharp shoved up their ass.

This part is the most important one of all. People honestly should be subjected to an IQ test before they're granted the right to spawn.

Lord, it's just an innocent child that hasn't done anything to deserve death, especially in such a sick, twisted way!
What the fuck is wrong with people these days?

"McDonald wrote in a 2007 essay for the American-Statesman about premature births that she suffered from depression after the child was born and "got overwhelmed with the amount of care (her daughter) required."

She should have either gotten a support group, or get an adoption signed. Both would be completely better than trying to kill her child with poop.

I agree with all the above posters. That mother is completely sick and twisted.

And I don't believe for one second that the father didn't have a clue that his wife was in serious need of help. Oh, yes I'm so sure that he was 'surprised' to find out that his wife was killing an innocent child in such a revolting manner. He should be locked away for life too.

What I don't get is why she was using human waste? I mean if this is her third child that probably meant she wanted another child. Then why would she try to even kill her if she wanted to have a third child? If you're going to have a child you better take care of it or else child services will come take he/she away and you will live knowing you can't have the responsibility of having another's life on your hands.

That's rarely ever true, sad to say. When idiots have babies, it's for one of two reasons: either it happened on accident, or the biggest ambition they have in life is to spawn.
