Protecting the children... From their parents? Parents banned from school's sports day over pedophile fears

Is this just some case where the school doesn't want the bad press of having a student assaulted by some pervert on school grounds? Seems to me like the bad PR of this attempt at protecting them is much worse. Or maybe the teachers want the students all to themselves! :p Seriously though... There HAS to be some reason for them doing this that they aren't letting people know about... The move just seems way too bizarre.

Original story is here.

Parents banned from sports day over paedophile fears

Parents were banned from attending their children's school sports day to protect pupils from potential child abductors and paedophiles.

More than 270 pupils from four primary schools in Bedfordshire took part in the East Beds School Sports Partnership Athletics Day.

But there were no spectators present because the organisers said allowing them would make it impossible to prevent "unsavoury" characters from attending.

A risk assessment concluded that the host school, Sandy Upper School in Biggleswade, could not "guarantee the children's safety".

Parents have condemned the ban.

The next move will be pulling kids out of school due to pedophile fears caused by the vast amounts of Adults they call teachers.

Very few parents in the UK have the luxury of "pulling" their children out of school. As far as I know, these are all "state" schools (free to anyone living in the local area) and for most, there's no choice - you just send your child to the local school closest to your home. There's a real shortage of school places in the South East of England (Bedfordshire is one of the counties on the outskirts of London).
If you want to move them to a different school, you either have to find a private (fee paying school) that will accept them or you have to apply to another state school and if no place is available, you will be put on the waiting list below any other children who live closer to the school than you.
