Woman charged over selling 'gothic kittens' (aka kittens w pierced ears, tails, etc)

I guess people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to get a kitten with some ear, neck and tail piercings now?

Original story is here.

Woman charged over 'gothic kittens'

An American woman who marketed "gothic kittens" with ear, neck and tail piercings over the internet has been charged with animal cruelty and conspiracy.

Authorities in Pennsylvania charged the woman after a tip off from an animal rights group, which said she was trying to sell the kittens online for hundreds of dollars.

Holly Crawford, 34, has said she will plead not guilty, and that she didn't see any difference between piercing a cat and piercing a human.

She said she used sterile needles and surgical soap and that she checked the kittens several times a day to make sure they were healing properly.

"When I did it, it wasn't with any cruel intentions," she told The Associated Press.

Whatever happened to just getting a kitten without such modifications? I mean why not just get the kitten for (Ohhhh I don't know...) it's personality or the breed that suits you best for one's lifestyle? Pretty sure piercings aren't a needed thing.

And for hundreds of dollars? Come the fuck on.

I mean if you want a "gothic" themed cat, get a black one without the piercings and name it Raven or Draco or Alucard or something >_>;;; Don't be piercing it's ears! Unless it tells you in plain english it wants some earrings and not just "MAAAOOOWWW!" Don't do that x_x;;

Stuff like this when I read it always rubs me the wrong way. I luff meh kitteh catz >^.^< I don't need to pierce my cat's ears to make them a fit a type of clique

You know, I've seen "piercings" in other cultures that aren't seen as cruelty either. I'm too lazy to import pictures, but they are definitely messed up. Although, this is a strange aspect of our culture: we are allowed to take our babies in, even younger than a year old, and get their ears pierced, and yet doing it to an animal (who has a higher pain threshold and just as little a say in the matter) is considered cruelty. We will put down an old, suffering pet before we do it to one of our relatives, even if they beg you to pull out their life support.

In essence, yes this is unnecessary animal cruelty. If I want a gothic kitten, I put a little kitty corset on her.

Horrible (but humorous) mental imagery there!

I, for one, am going to hold out for my very own emo kitten. Goth is so, like, last year.

Hm, this isn't unheard of, this is actually an 'ancient' custom, done back in Egypt 5000 yrs ago.

Ra,
So is circumcision, or as Kyle Broflovski eloquently puts it, "wee-wee chopping".

Yeah now thinking about it more after posting, probably yes in some cultures and done properly to not be painful I suppose is fine...just not my cup of tea.

Now the stereotyping b/s she's doing...yeah that's just stupid. That initially got me annoyed reading that headline in the first place >_> Rest kind of just followed.

Wow. The things people do these days.

Exactly why would you want a Goth-themed kitty cat? They make animals seem like just plain toys or objects

And for hundreds of dollars too?

Please.
