Official: Acid dumped in city's water supply
Ohio community drains entire system after workers' toxic mistake

Thousands of residents of a western Ohio community were told to stop drinking tap water after workers at a chemical treatment plant accidentally added toxic hydrochloric acid to the water supply.

No serious injuries were reported.

Forty pounds of the acid were added to Bellaire's water Sunday. The mistake was discovered Monday morning when workers noticed fluoride levels were lower than normal.

Kirk Baker: "How're them fluoride levels there, Bob?"
Worker Bob: "Uh. Inconclusive, sir."
Kirk Baker: "Inconclusive? How could that be?"
Worker Bob: "Well, we think we are about forty pounds short, but the litmus paper dissolved before we could get an accurate reading."
Kirk Baker: "Just get another strip and test again! I want those levels up! Where's Joe?"
Worker Bob: "Joe fell in, sir."
Kirk Baker: "Fell in?"
Worker Bob: "Into the tub marked Fluoride. His flesh fell off his bones."
Kirk Baker: "You idiot! That's not fluoride! That's hydrochloric acid!"
Worker Bob: "That does explain the burns, sir."
